MinuteClinic Receives Sixth Consecutive Ambulatory Health Care Accreditation from The Joint Commission

MinuteClinic continues to achieve the Gold Seal of Approval from national health assessment and certification agency

WOONSOCKET, RI, June 12, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) today announced that MinuteClinic, the retail medical clinic located in select CVS Pharmacy stores in 36 states and Washington DC, received its sixth consecutive ambulatory health care accreditation from The Joint Commission. Since 2006, when it was the first retail medical clinic in the United States to receive such accreditation, MinuteClinic has earned the Gold Seal of Approval demonstrating continued compliance with nationally recognized standards.

The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects MinuteClinic’s commitment to providing safe, high-quality patient care. Joint Commission accreditation is valid for up to three years and applies to medical services and care provided at more than 1,000 MinuteClinic locations nationwide. In the most recent investigation period, the Joint Commission also evaluated new mental health counseling services offered at select MinuteClinic locations, saw the CVS HealthHUB store format, looked into virtual care services and met its nurses and physician assistants/physician associates for the first time.

The Joint Commission has conducted on-site assessments at MinuteClinic locations across the United States since From 27 February to 3 March 2023. Following the Commission’s rigorous investigation process, a team of expert assessors evaluated MinuteClinic for compliance with standards spanning several areas, including, but not limited to, coordination of care, use of the electronic health record system ( EHR), infection prevention and control, medication management and patient education and safety.

MinuteClinic has an in-clinic Net Promotor Score (NPS) of over 81, placing MinuteClinic among the best clients in both healthcare and across industries and businesses. According to a variety of studies, the average NPS score for healthcare is between +38 and +58, with anything above 80 considered “world-class.”

The standards are developed by the Joint Commission in consultation with experts and healthcare providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help healthcare organizations measure, evaluate and improve performance. Inspectors also conducted on-site observations and interviews.

The Joint Commission Ambulatory Care Healthcare Accreditation Program was established in 1975 to encourage high-quality patient care in all types of independent ambulatory care settings. Today it accredits more than 2,200 organizations in a variety of contexts.

MinuteClinic provides high-quality, affordable, and affordable care for patients 18 months of age and older. Clinics are staffed by nurses and Physician Assistants/Physician Associates who specialize in family health care and are able to diagnose, treat and write prescriptions for common illnesses; treat rashes, skin diseases, wounds, abrasions and sprains; and administer common vaccinations (flu, COVID-19, shingles, and others).
